VIVA CEBU!

February 27, 2009

Back from a wonderful and blessed 9 day trip in Cebu and there are so many stories to share. My main purpose was to attend our Single’s for Chirst International Convention held at SM Cebu City. It was 3 days of getting to know more about Christ and learning to be a better Christian. I was really blown away by the workshops and I learned how to be a “Fisherman for the Lord” and how to “Walk on Water”. I’ll tell you more in detail in my future posts. Here’s a few images from my trip…more to come!

After our conference, some of us decided to stay and explore what Cebu was to offer and we were so blessed to experience God’s wonderful creations.  There were so many places to go to and within three days we were able to visit some of Cebu’s “not so usual places to got to ” like Moal-Boal beach and experience seeing “Pawikan” or Sea turtles , which are so rare to see. Also, the food was glorious! and if you know where to go, the food can be really cheap. Special thanks to Sheila Lacustaltes and her super nice parents, she’s our SFC chapter mate who hosted our stay and showed us around her town. I have officially fallen in love with Cebu.  More stories and images to follow here’s a glimpse from our adventures.

Just a week before their wedding we shot their engagement, since this was the only time they had coming back from Dubai.  I thought of shooting them at the beach since I remembered from their wedding website that they both loved the beach and Dache was also a

surfer. So I suggested we shoot them somewhere they loved to go and they had this place in mind in Zambales where they usually surf, which I forgot the name of the beach but its just right after Subic base.

We passed through Subic and had lunch there before we headed to the beach. After we ate I noticed this area near the restaurant we ate that looked promising and I asked Dache and Tin if we could shoot for a few minutes. We absolutely loved the spot and it was so rich in textures.

Then we headed for the beach. Personally, I love going to the beach myself and this was a welcome break for me from the common engagements we shoot. The place was really a surf area and the area was raw and the waves we’re rough. I liked the whole feel or mood of the place which in turn created some spectacular imagery.

The clouds were glorious that day and they added to make the images more dramatic.

I’m obssesed with cloud formations like this one. Somehow, when I always see a scene like this one, it makes me feel that God is coming down from heaven to visit and watch over us.

Dache brought his surf gear along and the day would not be complete if we did not use them right?

Dache and Tin Get Hitched

February 17, 2009

Here’s a gorgeous wedding I’ve been wanting to post. I thought I’d have more time to blog now since my wedding season in winding down but other projects keep coming and are keeping me busy right now. Anyways, Dache and Tin are flight attendants for Emirates and are currently based in Dubai.  They are one of my most memorable couples because I only met them through my multiply site. After a few conversations online and a meeting with them, they eventually booked me. Since they were based outside the Philippines, we would always keep in touch through email and I would try to help them with their wedding plans.

A lovely bride. Little did I know that Tin was a former beauty queen. She was actually Bb. Pilipnias World and I only found that out during wedding day. How cool is that :)

Meet Dache, one cool and wacky guy. I learned from his mom that day that he also used to model for Bench.

and by the way…the video team was Threelogy. Its always a pleasure to work with them since they’re such a fun bunch to be with and you can always expect great work from them. That’s Bong of Threelogy running to find an angle for his shot.

God of this City

February 7, 2009

Last Thursday, we opened our new studio and dedicated our new home to God. Our mentor showed this video by Chris Tomlin entitled God of this City and I was really moved by it.

It reminds me to keep on fighting the good fight for the Lord. In whatever we do and wherever we are, we need to be bolder in sharing God’s word especially to those who have not met Christ. I felt so reassured that that if ever hardships in our ministry come our way, as long as we hold on and stay connected to him great things are yet to come.

Enjoy this video!

Shooting Cars

February 4, 2009

Here’s something different from my daily grind. I’ve always been interested in cars and before I started photography, I loved to set-up or dress up the ca rides I drove. I believe I got this from my Uncle, Dindo De Jesus. He has been passionate about cars ever since he was young and most especially car racing.  Eventually he became a champion slalom and rally car driver.

When I was a kid, I would always look forward hanging out with him to hear stories about everything about cars, from its history, to the latest technology, to his stories about car racing. I would also watch as much as I can whenever he had race.  I really look up to him as someone who pursued something he loved with great passion. Similar to what I’m doing with wedding photography now  :)

So late last year, when I had a chance to hangout with him. I wanted to do something for him and shoot some of the cars he was setting-up.  This was also a technical exercise in photography for me. I put to use and harnessed the power of Nikon’s creative lighting system or CLS. One doesn’t have to use big studio lights all time, one can get big results from small strobes. For this shoot, I only used 2 Nikon SB-800 flashes. I’ll explain more as we go along.

Mini Cooper Mania.

This Cooper is owned by my dad’s good friend, Chito Macapagal. My Uncle Dindo was the one who helped find this car and helped him modify and restore this baby to its classic glory.

cjc_3564pr

For the techies out there, I used the natural sunset light to side light the camera left side of the Cooper in order to get a warm glow effect. For the front of the car, I used a Nikon Sb-800 off-camera attached to a light stand and fired it on an umbrella. I decide to use an umbrella for my light modifier in order to avoid a nasty reflection on the car. Then I used another sb-800 at the back of the car to light the background.

cjc_3565pr

cjc_3579pr

Here, I lit the car using an SB-800 on a light stand and umbrella at camera left. Then I place another Sb-800 on the ground and pointed it directly to the rear wheel of the car at camera right.

Subaru: A Legacy of Champions

This 1996 Subaru Forrester is one of my Uncle Dindo’s pride and joy. Subaru is legendary when it comes to racing performance and technology and is backed up by an impressive winning history in the rally arena. This Forrester is the 2.5L Turbo World Rally Version complete with sun rood and all the options available.  I used the same lighting set-up of the Cooper for this one.

I think I see more of myself shooting cars in the near future :)

A Note from Beckstead

February 1, 2009

David Beckstead is one of my favorite weddings photographers and he is a constant source of inspiration for me. Our mentor, John Mateos Ong, recently  attended one if his Shoot with Beckstead workshops in the U.S. I recently joined one of his photo groups in facebook and yesterday I decided to share one of my recent shot from a wedding. I was surprised today to find a cool comment from him. Awesome!
